7 Days Rongai Route Overview

The 7 days Rongai route is the only Kilimanjaro route that approaches from the north, near the Kenyan border. It is a less travelled path, ideal for climbers who want solitude, a quieter trek, or a good option in the rainy season, as the northern side tends to get less rain. Rongai stays less crowded than busier trails such as Marangu or Machame. It takes at least six days, but seven days is recommended for proper acclimatization and higher summit success. The scenery is less varied than on the western routes, but you walk through remote wilderness. The climb joins the Marangu Route at Kibo Hut for the final ascent to Uhuru Peak and descends by the Marangu trail. Rongai is moderately difficult and a good choice for first-time climbers.
