Day01Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). Utukufu Travels and Adventures warmly welcomes you and transfers you to a cosy stay in Arusha. Later in the day, relax or explore the town in the afternoon. In the evening, enjoy dinner at the lodge, ready for the safari ahead.
Highlight: Easy airport pick-up and a relaxed first evening in Arusha.
Day02After breakfast, the tour departs. The first stop is Arusha town for any last-minute purchases. Then drive to Tarangire National Park for a game drive with a picnic lunch in the park. Tarangire is famous for its many elephants and its baobab trees. It is the centre of an annual migration of up to 3000 elephants, 25,000 wildebeest and 30,000 zebras.
Highlight: Elephants and baobab trees on your Tarangire game drive.
Day03After breakfast, drive to Lake Manyara. The park offers breathtaking views and many habitats. These include acacia woodland, water forest, baobab-strewn cliffs, hot springs, swamps and the lake itself. As a result, the small park supports many animal species and incredible birdlife. Manyara has the largest group of baboons anywhere in the world. Its lions are also famous for climbing trees.
Highlight: Many habitats, rich birdlife and tree-climbing lions.
Day04After breakfast, head to the Serengeti through the green farmland of Karatu and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Afterward, leave the highlands behind and descend into the heart of wild Africa. Endless plains roll to the horizon. Drive to the central Seronera area, one of the best places for wildlife in the park. The Seronera River is a key water source, so it attracts most of the Serengeti’s animals. Later, arrive in time for lunch and enjoy an afternoon game drive.
Highlight: Endless plains and the wildlife-rich Seronera area.
Day05Start with an early morning game drive to see nocturnal animals returning from the hunt and lions waking at dawn. Then enjoy a full day of game drives around the Serengeti. What you see depends on the time of year and the Great Migration. Then, you can expect wildebeest, lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, monkeys, baboons, hippos, rhinos, antelopes and many birds.
Highlight: Dawn game drive and a full day with the Serengeti herds.
Day06Enjoy an early morning game drive, then head for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. In addition, stop at Olduvai Gorge, a place with a history dating back to the dawn of time. Here the anthropologists Dr Louis and Mary Leakey found the skulls of Nutcracker Man and Handy Man. Both are important links in human evolution. In the late afternoon, transfer to your lodge for dinner and the night.
Highlight: Olduvai Gorge, the cradle of human history.
Day07After an early breakfast, go down over 600 metres into the crater to see wildlife. The crater has water and food all year. It supports wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, eland, warthog, hippo and giant African elephants. It also has many predators, including lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs and the elusive leopard. Visit Lake Magadi, a shallow alkaline lake where you can often see flamingos, hippos and water birds. In the late afternoon, transfer to Arusha for dinner and the night, or to the airport for your departure flight.
Highlight: The crater floor, Lake Magadi and a dense population of predators.
