Day by Day Plan
Day01As the sun rises, enjoy a hearty breakfast, then set off for Tarangire National Park, a haven for elephants and baobab trees. In addition, enjoy a morning game drive followed by a picnic lunch in the park. In the afternoon, travel toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and reach a lodge near the crater. The day ends with dinner and the night at the lodge, ready for the Ngorongoro Crater.
Highlight: Elephants and ancient baobabs on your Tarangire game drive.
Day02After breakfast, head to the Serengeti through the green farmland of Karatu and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Afterward, leave the highlands behind and descend into the heart of wild Africa. Endless plains roll to the horizon. Drive to the central Seronera area, one of the best places for wildlife in the park. The Seronera River is a key water source, so it attracts most of the Serengeti’s animals. Later, arrive in time for lunch and enjoy an afternoon game drive.
Highlight: Endless plains and the wildlife-rich Seronera area.
Day03Enjoy an early morning game drive in the Serengeti, then depart for the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Finally, stop at Olduvai Gorge, a place with a history dating back to the dawn of time. Here the anthropologists Dr Louis and Mary Leakey found the skulls of Nutcracker Man and Handy Man. Both are important links in human evolution.
Highlight: Olduvai Gorge, the cradle of human history.
Day04After an early breakfast, go down over 600 metres into the crater to see wildlife. The crater has water and food all year. It supports wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, eland, warthog, hippo and giant African elephants. It also has many predators, including lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs and the elusive leopard. Visit Lake Magadi, a shallow alkaline lake where you can often see flamingos, hippos and water birds. In the late afternoon, transfer to Arusha for dinner and the night, or to the airport for your flight.
Highlight: The crater floor, Lake Magadi and a dense population of predators.
