Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Is gorilla trekking suitable for everyone?
Gorilla trekking needs a moderate level of fitness because the terrain can be steep and uneven. Treks usually take between three and six hours, including up to one hour with the gorillas, and the minimum age to trek is 15. Tell us about any mobility concerns and we will plan around them.
Is the gorilla trekking permit included in the price?
Yes. The gorilla trekking permit and all national park entrance fees are included in this itinerary. Permits are limited, so booking early for your travel dates is strongly recommended.
How do we travel between Entebbe and Bwindi?
Gorilla Heights Lodge is around 12 hours by road from Entebbe, so many travellers combine a domestic flight with a road transfer instead. We will confirm the best arrangement for your dates, and what it includes, when you enquire.
When is the best time to visit Uganda for gorillas?
Gorilla trekking is possible all year. The busiest and often most comfortable periods are June to September and December to February, so we recommend booking well in advance if you plan to travel then.
What should I know about staying at Wildwaters Lodge?
Wildwaters Lodge sits on a private island in the Nile and is reached by a short boat crossing. Guests need to arrive before 5:30pm so the crossing can be made safely, and children must be supervised at all times because of the rapids around the island.
Can I add white-water rafting or other activities near Jinja?
Yes. Rafting, kayaking, horse riding and fishing can be arranged around Jinja as optional extras. They are not included in the base price, so let us know what interests you and we will add them to your quote.
