Safari Packing Checklist
Everything you should pack for a comfortable, well-prepared Tanzania safari — organised so nothing gets left behind.
Clothing
- Lightweight, neutral-coloured clothing (khaki, olive, tan) — avoid bright colours and pure white or black, which can attract insects
- A warm fleece or jacket for early morning and evening game drives
- A wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses
- Comfortable, closed walking shoes and a pair of sandals
- Swimwear if your itinerary includes a lodge pool or Zanzibar beach stay
- A light rain jacket, especially during the green season
Health & Toiletries
- Any personal prescription medication, in its original packaging
- Basic first-aid items: plasters, antiseptic cream, rehydration salts
- Insect repellent and after-bite cream
- Sunscreen (high SPF) and lip balm with SPF
- Anti-malarial tablets, as advised by your doctor
- Hand sanitiser and a small personal toiletry kit
Electronics & Photography
- Camera with extra batteries and memory cards
- Binoculars for spotting distant wildlife
- Phone and charger, plus a universal power adapter
- A portable power bank for days away from charging points
- A dry bag or dust cover to protect electronics on dusty roads
Documents & Money
- Valid passport (with at least six months validity remaining)
- Printed or digital visa confirmation
- Yellow fever certificate, if arriving from an affected country
- Travel insurance details and emergency contacts
- Some cash in US dollars for tips and small purchases, plus a debit or credit card
A Few Extras
- A reusable water bottle
- A small daypack for daily essentials in the vehicle
- A good book or journal for quiet afternoons at camp
- Snacks for long game drives
