The 6 days Lemosho route is considered the most scenic trail on Kilimanjaro, with panoramic views on several sides of the mountain. As one of the newer routes, it is a superb choice for your climb. It is our preferred route because it balances low crowds, beautiful scenery and a high summit success rate. In addition, most of our clients climb Kilimanjaro on Lemosho, and their feedback is excellent. In addition, the climb begins at Londorossi Gate (2,360 m), far to the west of the mountain. It then circles Kilimanjaro to the south, through majestic rainforest where unique wildlife can often be seen, and continues up to the Shira Ridge. In short, this 6 days Lemosho trek is a quicker version of a scenic route. First, you arrive in Tanzania and have a briefing in Moshi. Then you walk from Lemosho Glades to Big Tree Camp. Next, you cross to Shira 2 Camp.
After that, you go to Barranco Camp and then to Barafu Camp. Finally, you climb to the summit and descend to Mweka Camp. Because the plan is short, it leaves less time to adjust to altitude. However, the route still has low crowds and beautiful scenery.
Locations are approximate and shown for orientation. Your exact route may vary slightly with conditions.

Day by Day Plan
Day00Welcome to Tanzania! At Kilimanjaro International Airport a representative greets you and transfers you to your hotel in Moshi. Also, there you meet your guide for a briefing and gear check. Later in the day, relax and acclimatize for the rest of the day.
Day01After breakfast we drive to the start of the Lemosho Route at Lemosho Glades. You trek through lush forest and cross several streams before you reach Big Tree Camp, your campsite for the night.
Day02Today you walk through the heather and moorland zone, with stunning views of the Shira Plateau along the way. The camp has views of the surrounding mountains and the wide plateau.
Day03From the Shira Plateau you climb a ridge to the east, past the junction towards Kibo. The trail then turns south-east to the Lava Tower, called the “Shark’s Tooth” (4,650 m). Shortly after the tower is a second junction that leads to the Arrow Glacier. You then walk down to Barranco Camp. You end the day at about the same height as you started, but this day is very important for acclimatization and prepares your body for summit day.
Highlight: Lava Tower at 4,650 m, a key day for acclimatization.
Day04After breakfast we walk to Barafu Camp at 4,640 m. Also, the climb crosses bare scree slopes with no plants at all. Additionally, it is a tough, steep walk made harder by the altitude. At camp you eat and rest in the afternoon to prepare for the long night and day ahead. It is important to stay hydrated and warm. You have an early dinner and try to sleep, because you wake late at night to start the summit climb.
Day05Very early in the morning (midnight to 2 am) you climb towards the summit between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers. Later, you head north-west through heavy scree to Stella Point on the crater rim. Additionally, this is the hardest part of the trek, both mentally and physically. At Stella Point you rest briefly and see a magnificent sunrise. Faster hikers may see the sunrise from the summit. From Stella Point you may find snow on the 1-hour climb to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. You then descend to Mweka Camp, stopping at Barafu for lunch. Gaiters and trekking poles help on the loose gravel.
Highlight: Stand on Uhuru Peak, 5,895 m, the highest point in Africa.
Day06After breakfast you continue down to Mweka Park Gate to receive your summit certificate. In addition, the lower slopes can be wet and muddy, so gaiters and trekking poles help. Shorts and a t-shirt are usually enough here, but keep rain gear and warmer clothes handy. Our vehicle meets you at Mweka Gate and drives you back to your hotel in Moshi, about 60 minutes. On your departure day we arrange a timely transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO).
