Good to Know

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything travelers usually ask before booking a Tanzania safari.

What is the best time to go on safari in Tanzania?
The best time is during the dry season, June to October, when animals gather around waterholes and are easiest to spot. It's also when you can witness the Great Migration crossing the Mara River in northern Serengeti. Tanzania is a year-round destination, though — each season offers something different.
What should I pack for a safari?
Light, neutral-colored clothing for daytime, a warm jacket for early mornings and evenings, comfortable walking shoes, a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses and sunscreen, binoculars, a camera, personal medications, and insect repellent. We'll send you a detailed packing list before your trip.
What is the Great Migration, and when can I see it?
The Great Migration is the movement of millions of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles across the Serengeti and Kenya's Maasai Mara in search of fresh grazing. River crossings happen roughly June–July in the northern Serengeti, while calving season runs December–March on the southern plains.
How long should my safari be?
Most safaris run 3 to 10 days. A 3–4 day trip can cover Tarangire, Ngorongoro Crater, and Lake Manyara comfortably. For a fuller experience including the Serengeti and the Great Migration, 7–10 days is ideal.
What type of accommodation can I expect on safari?
We offer options for every preference: budget camping with shared facilities, comfortable mid-range lodges with en-suite bathrooms, and luxury tented camps with private bathrooms, gourmet meals, and stunning views of the wilderness.
Do I need any vaccinations or a visa?
Check with your healthcare provider on recommended vaccinations — Yellow Fever is mandatory if arriving from an endemic country, and anti-malaria medication is advised. Most travelers also need a visa, available on arrival at major airports/borders or online in advance — requirements vary by nationality.
How much should I tip on safari?
As a general guideline: $10–$15 per person per day for your safari guide, $5–$10 per person per day for a cook on camping safaris, and $5–$10 per day pooled for lodge staff. We'll walk you through our full tipping guidance before you travel.
Can I do a safari with children?
Yes — safari is a wonderful family adventure. Most parks welcome children, and many lodges offer family-friendly services. We can help you choose parks and lodges suited to younger travelers.
